During the 2012 summer Olympics held in London, Swiss soccer player, Michael Morganella, was kicked off his team and sent home after he authored a nasty Tweet directed toward his South Korean opponents. Apparently, Morganella was outraged after a dismal loss against the Koreans and posted his anger on Twitter, referring to his opponents as "handicapped retards." The stunt was received extremely offensively and Morganella was consequently sent home from the Games. For the full story, see the link below.

Some individuals believe this was a racist comment. Others simply view this as competitive "smack talk." So you think this comment was appropriate in the setting of the Olympic Games?
A similar situation happened in the track and fields sports. I think a german female athlete said something about the jamacian runners that the insects from Great Britain would eat well this summer because the Jamacians bring their own homemade food to eat.
ReplyDeleteTweeting something like "handicapped retards," is despicable and athletes should know better. They should make a policy that athletes shouldn't have access to their twitter accounts until a few hours after their events so they have time to let their emotions settle before making a fool of themselves and their countries.
ReplyDeleteI think people like this who can't control their emotions or anger and disappointed thoughts is what gives "athletes" bad reputations with tweeting on Twitter. This comment is something that should not have been said on a status update or tweet.
